The Anxious Achiever
The Anxious Achiever Podcast from Harvard Business Review is a fantastic mental health focused podcast. It is very much geared towards the ‘Type A’, people pleasing crowd though anybody could listen and find value in their wide range of topics.
Host Morra Aarons-Mele is a soothing guide through the difficult discussions, and keeps everything extremely relatable.
It may not be a creativity show exactly, but the insight and comfort it provides me with are essential to my creative practice. Often times, by the end of an episode you are left with an actionable toolkit for your own life.
Here’s the description right from Apple Podcasts.
“Host Morra Aarons-Mele is on a mission to reframe how we think about anxiety and mental health in the workplace. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S. We desperately need better models for leadership and a more holistic view of mental health. Our culture tells those of us who suffer from anxiety and depression that we can’t succeed but we tell a different story — without sugarcoating the tough stuff. We feature stories from people who’ve been there and experts who can help you thrive.“
99% Invisible is a design podcast, focused on the real world.
By diving deep into topics of hidden creativity like licence plates, architecture, civic addresses and more, you learn more about your own perspective of the world than you do about design.
Fascinating stories backed by thorough research and passionate delivery.
Here is a blurb right from them:
“99% Invisible is a sound rich, narrative podcast hosted by Roman Mars about all the thought that goes into the things we don’t think about — the unnoticed architecture and design that shape our world.
Working It Out with Mike Birbiglia
Working It Out is the newest podcast on this list. Hosted by accomplished comedian Mike Birbiglia.
Mike Birbiglia invites other comedians on the show to talk about the craft of comedy, how their life experiences shaped their humor, and just some lighthearted conversation. Towards the end of each episode, they jump into the “Work it Out” portion.
During the ‘Work it Out’ portion, Mike explains his way through new material he is writing, and gets feedback from his guests and they work it out together. Getting an inside look at this creative process has proven incredibly inspiring to me.
Here’s the blurb from his very own website:
Comedian Mike Birbiglia welcomes a different comedian or creator each week and together they work out original, untested material. And, occasionally, uncomfortable topics. Join them as they work it out.
Ten Percent Happier
Ten Percent Happier is a podcast from the studios of ABC News, but from the heart and soul of the host, Dan Harris.
Dan Harris, who wrote a book by the same title as the Podcast, has spent the last number of years diving headfirst into the world of Meditation. Specifically, loving-kindness meditation. On the podcast, he invites prominent people from this space to tackle large and often difficult topics. Supplemented by guided meditations from many of those guests.
The Ten Percent Happier podcast has directly influenced a lot of the content on InTakeCreate, and was a perfect companion as I went on my own mindfulness journey over the last year.
Here a blurb from their website to give you the full preview:
10% Happier author Dan Harris talks with meditation pioneers, celebrities, scientists, and health experts about training our minds.
Creative Pep Talk
The Creative Pep Talk Podcast from Andy J. Pizza is all about building a career as a creative.
While the mindfulness focus of the Ten Percent Happier podcast helped me get my feet back on the ground. The Creative Pep Talk Podcast helped me learn how to walk again.
Andy J. Pizza has become a role model for me in my creative life. He brings his full energy, and authentic self to every project and every episode. All the while, he maintains a prowess for critical thinking that super charges his work.
The Creative Pep Talk Podcast has motivated and inspired me to do more with my work. To put more of myself in my work, and to get real benefits from my own work.
Here’s the blurb right from the illustrated website for the show:
